Most Common Pests in the Southwest

In the Southwest, it’s common to find pests in your home. To them, your attic is just as inviting as your basement, and that’s where you’ll find most of them. You can trust that Termagon professionals know what and where to look for these home invaders.

Common Southwestern Region Insects

Insects are the most common pests across the nation. Some are helpful to your home, because they feed on other insects but most you wish to avoid. These pests cause damage, carry diseases and eat your food. In order to protect your home, be on the lookout for these common southwestern pests.

Roaches and ants tend to spread. However, they leave a trail of droppings to show where they’ve been. Unfortunately, where they have been is typically in your kitchen. Ants are so common that they are Termagon’s most commonly reported pest, which shows how easy it is for them to invade your home.

Termites would rather be inside your walls and foundations. They are possibly the most destructive Southwest pests because they can go years without being noticed while hiding in your walls. They breed quickly, and they’re hard to find until major structural damage occurs to your home.

One of the most helpful pests in your home are spiders, as long as they aren’t the ones that like to bite you. However, there are some not-so-helpful spiders that you should look out for. Beetles are also helpful because they eat other insects but can cause the same amount of damage as termites.

Just like spiders, it’s imperative to know the difference between bees and wasps. Wasps are aggressive and won’t hesitate to attack you, whereas bees are peaceful unless they are provoked. However, if you or a family member is allergic, it’s best to get rid of them before an issue happens.

A growing epidemic in America is the infestation of bed bugs. Bed bugs easily transfer from place to place, so you have to make sure you inspect everything to find them. Although they don’t transfer any diseases when they bite you like mosquitos, ticks or fleas, bed bugs will ingest your blood slowly with bites you can’t feel.

Other Common Southwestern Region Pests

Rodents love to make burrows in your home. Common southwestern pets are mice, raccoons, opossums, and rabbits. These seem better to deal with than an insect infestation, but these pests can be destructive, are difficult to control, and can cause cosmetic damage to your outside vegetation.

Although these are the most common pests, there are many more that you can find in the southwest region, including these animals. It is important to get rid of these pests quickly because the longer they stay infested in your home and yard, the harder it is to remove them. So if your problems have just begun, or you’ve found an infestation, you can contact Termagon so they can help you rid your home of these pesky pests.
