_BIOLOGY |
Subterranean termites establish their colony in the soil, not the wood like the drywood termite. From their colony in the soil, they normally consume wood that is either underground or in contact with the soil, therefore, homes with earth to wood contact are especially susceptible to attack. In cases where there is no direct soil contact with the structure, then create migratory tubes made of mud and their own fecal material. They do not produce a fecal pellet like the drywood termite. After 3-4 years, the colony may swarm and will consist of 60,000 individuals or more.
