_APPEARANCE
The house mouse is small, its body is 2 to 4 inches long and about one ounce in weight. Rats are larger and can grow 7 to 12 inches long (add another 6 to 7 inches for the tail) and are under one pound in weight.

_HABITS
Nest within structures or burrows. They enter buildings and homes in search of food.

_DIET
Omnivorous, but show a preference for grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables. Some rats also have a preference for meats.

_REPRODUCTION
Mice can breed at two months, and have a litter about once a month. Their litters consist of four to seven young, and they can live up to one year. Rats can have about four to seven litters a year, and the litters consist of two to seven young. Rats are sexually mature at two to four months and live about one year.

__OTHER INFORMATION
Mice can fit through a crack or a whole about 1/4th an inch or larger. Rats can fit through a whole the size of a quarter. Rats and mice carry many serious diseases.
