_APPEARANCE
Although there are many varieties of cockroaches, most are 1 1/2 inches long, dark brown and have flying capability, making it easy to travel from trees into houses. The immature are uniformly dark brown and lack wings. The egg case is about 3/8 inch long and dark brown.

_HABITS
Cockroaches are found outdoors and indoors, and often infests basements and sewer systems.

_DIET
Scavengers. They will eat almost anything.

_REPRODUCTION
The female produces multiple capsules; there are anywhere from 14 to 48 eggs per capsule, depending on the species. Your home is an ideal breeding ground. With plenty of food, warmth, water and nesting sites, they can remain active all year round.

__DISCOURAGING COCKROACH ACTIVITY
Reduce sources of food and water. Store food in containers that close tightly and that cockroaches cannot chew through. Eliminate harboring and pathway areas by sealing or screening.

__OTHER INFORMATION
Cockroaches are nocturnal. Overcrowding may force cockroaches out by day. If you see cockroaches in your house during the day, this could possibly be a sign of severe infestation. For every one you see there can be 200 more hiding and multiplying behind your walls.
